Privacy policy
DayBud is a planner for your tasks, habits, journal, trips and spending. This page explains what it keeps, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. In short: your data is used to run DayBud for you, it is never sold, there are no ads, and you can delete everything from the app.
Who we are
DayBud is made by Creative Lab. Questions, requests and complaints go to support@daybud.app.
What DayBud keeps
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name and email address from Sign in with Apple or Google (Apple lets you hide your email), or the email address you sign in with | To sign you in (signing in with email sends a code to that address) and keep your data together across your devices |
| What you add: tasks, plans, reminders, notes, habits and check-ins, journal entries and moods, trips with their stops and notes, expenses | To show it to you and sync it between your devices |
| The text of your voice notes (not the recording) | To turn what you said into items, and to keep a history you can undo |
| When DayBud runs into an error in its code: what went wrong and where in the code, the app version, and the phone model and system version | To find and fix the error; kept for 90 days |
| Photos you choose for a trip: a smaller copy, when and where it was taken, your caption and story | To show your memory wall on all your devices and place photos on your trip |
| Your feedback, with the app version and phone model | To answer you and fix problems |
| When you last opened the app, its version and your phone’s platform | To know which versions are in use and keep DayBud working on them |
| A count of AI requests and their size (never their content) | To keep AI costs in check and apply fair-use limits |
What stays on your phone
- Your calendars. DayBud reads your phone’s calendars on the phone to show your events next to your tasks. Events are not uploaded, except as described under voice notes.
- Your photo library. DayBud only reads the photos you pick (and, when you build a trip from photos, when and where the photos from the days you choose were taken). Only the photos you add are copied.
- Voice recordings. Speech is turned into text by your phone. Depending on your phone’s settings, Apple or Google may process the audio to do that, under their own privacy terms. DayBud never stores the audio.
- Health data. If you link a habit to steps, exercise, sleep or walking distance, DayBud reads that from Apple Health or Health Connect on the phone to tick the habit off when the day reaches its target. What it reads is not uploaded or shared; only the tick is saved, as when you tick a habit yourself. DayBud only reads health data and never writes it.
- Your location. DayBud does not track or store where you are. If you set a reminder for when you arrive at or leave a place, your phone watches for that place itself, also in the background, and your location stays on the phone. When you tap Where I am now, your position rounded to about 100 metres is sent once to MapTiler, only to name the place.
- The journal lock uses your phone’s fingerprint, face or screen lock; DayBud never sees them.
Sorting voice notes with AI
Only if you agree (DayBud asks before your first note, and you can change it on the account screen), the text of a voice note is sent to Anthropic, which makes the Claude AI models, to sort it into tasks, events, habits, journal lines, notes, expenses and trip notes. Along with the text we send your local date, time and time zone, and short lists that help it link things: the names of your task lists, habits and trips, the titles of your open tasks, and the titles and times of your calendar events from two days ago to two weeks ahead. Anthropic uses this only to return the result to DayBud and, under its commercial terms, does not train its models on it. Your journal is never sent to AI. Without your agreement, a voice note is saved as a single task.
Who else handles your data
| Who | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Hetzner (Germany) | Hosts DayBud’s server, database, photo storage and encrypted backups | Everything DayBud keeps, stored in Germany |
| Anthropic (United States) | Sorting voice notes, only with your agreement | What is listed under “Sorting voice notes with AI” |
| MapTiler (Switzerland) | Maps and place search | The places you search for and the map areas you view, with your IP address; when you tap Where I am now, your position rounded to about 100 metres |
| Apple and Google | Sign-in, app stores, notifications, subscriptions | What their sign-in, store and notification services need |
| RevenueCat (United States) | Managing DayBud Pro subscriptions, when you subscribe | Your DayBud account id (a random code, not your name or email) and your purchases |
We don’t sell your data, share it for advertising, or show ads. Exchange rates come from a public source that receives nothing about you.
Sharing a trip
When you share a trip as a link, anyone with the link can see that trip’s name, dates, stops, photos, captions and stories on daybud.app, until you stop sharing it in the app. A shared picture (a “share card”) is an image you send yourself; it contains what you see on it.
Likes and notes on a shared page
People who open a shared page can like its photos and leave a private note for the person who shared it. They don’t need an account.
- For visitors. A note keeps the name you give (if any) and what you write, and goes only to the person who shared the page. Likes are counted per photo, and anyone with the link sees the count. So a photo counts one like from you, and so the person who shared it can block you, your browser keeps a random code, and our server keeps only a one-way hash of that code. We don’t keep your IP address or other details with them.
- For the person sharing. Likes and notes arrive in your DayBud app. You can delete any note, block its sender, report it to us, or turn likes and notes off for a link. A report sends us that note so we can act on it.
- How long. A note stays until the person it was for deletes it, their trip or their account. Likes go with the photo, the link or the account.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your data and photo copies are deleted from the server straight away, and from our encrypted backups as they are replaced, within 30 days. Counts of AI requests are deleted with your account.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app (Account → Delete account), or see how to ask us if you can’t use the app.
- Turn off AI sorting at any time on the account screen.
- Get a copy of your data in the app (account screen → Your data: everything as a file, and your journal as a PDF or text), or ask us for it, or to correct it, by email. Where data protection laws (such as the GDPR) give you further rights, you can use them the same way, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
Security
Your data travels encrypted (HTTPS), each person can only reach their own data, keys for outside services are stored encrypted, and backups are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so tell us at support@daybud.app if you find a problem.
Children
DayBud is not meant for children under 13 (under 16 in the European Union), and we don’t knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and tell you in the app when the change matters.
